Chaminade defends Class AA CHSAA championship

Chaminade was flawless in the Class AA CHSAA championship game against rival St. Anthony’s.  The Flyers’ took an early lead and never looked back, eventually finishing the game with a 13-6 lead.

Dominating in the CHSAA, Chaminade and St. Anthony’s have faced off in the championship game every year for over a decade now.  The Flyers were victorious in last year’s matchup, and expected nothing else but to double their money.

The two teams entered the game pretty evenly matched.  Entering the game at 12-3, Chaminade held the 14th place in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings.  The Friars were 13-4, giving them the 12th ranked in the nation.

After taking a 7-4 lead into the half, Chaminade extended its lead in the third, reaching a 10-5 advantage.  Chaminade continued to push until the final whistle, outdoing St. Anthony’s 3-1 in the final quarter.

Jack Tigh led the Flyers with a five-point performance, backed by four goals and assist.  Sean Cerrone also posted five-points with two goals and three assists.  Wrapping up Chaminade’s offensive prowess, Sam Bonafede added on three goals.

Perhaps an even more impressive milestone, this win gives Coach Jack Moran his 500th victory with the program.  On top of that, Moran has the honor of boasting the fact that he will have coached a collegiate national champion.  The Final Four teams in the NCAA tournament, Duke, Denver, Maryland, and Notre Dame, each have a player who came from Chaminade under the coaching of Moran.

With its second consecutive championship title and a milestone victory, Chaminade can go into the offseason knowing they had another successful campaign.  Surely Moran and his Flyers will be back at the top of the national scales next season when they get back at it again.

Key Players:

Jack Tigh- 4 goals, 1 assist

Sean Cerrone- 2 goals, 3 assists
